None of these cautions are intended to dampen enthusiasm for this emerging field. We need to better understand how investing can be wielded to create positive change, and we can only learn by doing. Let’s just be sure to focus on the big picture: our ultimate goal has to be effective social impact and not just the creation of a new asset class.

We’re facing unprecedented challenges. The market presents extraordinary opportunity for positive social change. Let’s leverage the hell out of it. But let’s not assume that today’s challenges will be solved by market forces alone.
